Everyone wondered who she was and where she came from when Jake and his grandfather, Martin Tall Bear, brought the little girl to the sheriff’s office in the tiny Appalachian town called Relief. She had been found sitting on a rock in the middle of a river way up in high country. The sheriff decides the best thing to do is place the little girl Jake had named Skye in the care of his daughter-in-law, Annie, in hopes that by having another child to nurture she would come to accept her own tragic loss…the accidental death of both her husband and young son. As the weeks tick by, Skye begins to recover physically though she has no memory of the past except in her nightmares. With no one her own age to play with in the remote mountain valley, she invents an imaginary friend…or so Annie thinks…until she discovers that her new playmate is her dead son, Jesse.

I have followed Merabeth James's Ravyn sisters series for several years, and was getting rather bored with it. That series is a good filler, while waiting for favorite authors to release new books.This is NOTHING like that series. I had no idea that Merabeth could pull heartstrings like this. Love, hate, sorrow, joy, fear.... This book has it all.
I put aside my pre-ordered new releases from Chloe Neil and Karen Marie Moning, and Julie Moffett in order to buy the next in this series, and read it. SERIOUSLY! I can't believe I did that. But this was that good.

I love this author. I think this is going to be a great new series. I love the mountain setting and all the characters. Already purchased Book Two!
Enjoyed reading the book. This is the first time I have read this author. I have bought the nest in the series - Skye in the middle.
You get the feeling of every character in this story,it is so powerful you can almost feel the emotions just through the reading.Can't wait to see what happens next!
This book was good! I had a few tears in some parts but I thought it was really good read and I look forward to the next!
Although I have always loved the Ravynne sisters' adventures and eagerly awaited the next, I was equally enthralled by 'Skye' - the well-rounded characters, vivid scenery and, of course, the ghosts. The book is a blend of joy, sadness and hope; it is fast-paced. I'd swear Merabeth James was herself a mountain girl. Great Job!!!
A great read with twists and unexpected turns. The characters are each brought to life and you feel as if you can see them. A fight between good and evil with ghosts abounds and descriptions of the people and ghosts brings it alive. The ghosts so far seem benign and add to the plot.
Can't wait to read the second book and follow Skye on her journey.
Skye was found siting on a rock in the water. Had no visible signs of fear or anxiety. When she was found, she had no idea why she was where she was or who she was. Luckily was taken into a great family home which loved her and watched over her. No spoilers. Just know that it holds your attention and moves along at a great pace. Definitely recommend this book.
